Capability Modeling

What is Capability Modeling?

Capability Modeling, also known as business capability mapping, is a method used to provide a visual representation of an organization's business capabilities. It is a structured approach that helps in identifying and organizing the functions, processes, and strategic priorities of a business. Essentially, it breaks down what a business does into a logical and granular grouping, which can be critical for aligning business strategies with IT resources and for guiding enterprise transformation. This modeling technique is a cornerstone in business architecture, offering a high-level view of an organization's abilities, independent of its structure, processes, or personnel. It serves as a foundation for frameworks like TOGAF and is an integral part of the Business Architecture Book of Knowledge. By mapping out capabilities, organizations can better understand and manage their internal functions and services, leading to more informed decision-making and strategic planning.
